It would have definitely been naive to try and predict the outcome of this game with confidence. I am not going to look at the recent, home-away or specific-to-competition performances of these 2 teams. I am not even going to try and approach this game from a specific angle in an effort to throw the advantage to either of them. What i am going to do though is to take a position in terms of the odds. I believe that this is a totally 50-50 situation because this is a FINAL game and even more, the Champions League FINAL game between the best 2 teams in the world currently.

Consequently, the favouritism that the bookmakers give to Barcelona to win this game is, to say the least, acting as a safety net for them because comparably a lot more people are betting in favour of Barcelona to win the final (90-minute play, extra-time, penalties). Based on the odds, in the region of 2.00 and 4.00 for Barcelona and Manchester respectively to win in the first 90 minutes or odds in the region of 1.50 and 2.60 respectively as outright odds, it is as if the bookmakers are 'guiding' people to bet in favour of Barcelona so that in case Manchester lifts the trophy, the bookmakers are not going to have a loss.

In other words, i consider the 4.00 odd for Manchester to win the final through a 90-minute play of the 2.60 for Manchester to lift the trophy either through the first 90 minutes or extra-time or even penalties, quite tempting. Contrary to the odds again, i believe (or should i say that this is more of a hope) that we are going to have an over 2.5 goals situation. In general, the over 2.5 goals option is my favourite typy of bet, but it is not only about that. An odd in the region of 2.30-2.40 for the over 2.5 goals option in tonight's final is going 'against' the attacking abilities / nature of both teams. Ok, they may look into how to keep a clean sheet as their primary concern and their attacking intentions may become secondary but this is only going to last until the ... first goal is scored and i feel that this is going to happen within the first 45 minutes of the game.

Strangely enough, a Liverpool fan (myself) believes (and hopes betting-wise) that Manchester Utd is going to lift the trophy of the 2010-2011 Champions League competition!
